How To Overclock I7 6700hq

Introduction

hey, I spent some time searching and all I found is that you cant overclock this, however on Intel Extreme Tuning Utility theres tons of sliders to play around with, the problem is that I have no idea of what to do.

I have an i7-7700HQ in an MSI GP72 7RDX laptop, after I learned of the key functions to get into the advanced settings in the BIOS, their is an option about enabling overclocking feature.

For the OCing itself youll want to set a manual voltage, since auto voltage will most likely go up with higher multipliers. Higher voltages are not what you want with a laptop. I would start by seeing what your stock voltage reaches under load & then manually set it to the same value.

You ideally want to see 70C to 75C temps on the CPU, but really dont want to see higher than around 80C to 85C under full load. Hope this helps some & feel free to PM me for any advice on it! lol you cant oc this chip, no matter what you try. source: me, i have an i7 7700hq. I overclocked mine!

Is it possible to overclock Intel Extreme tuning utility?

The Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) is a Windows*-based performance-tuning software that enables novice and experienced enthusiasts to overclock, monitor, and stress a system.

There are two methods to achieve an overclock in Intel® XTU: Basic Tuning and Advanced Tuning. As the name implies, this option offers a limited selection of parameters to adjust. This is a good place to start for first timers.

For a long time, overclocking was done manually through the BIOS, the basic input output system that loads the operating system. While you can still overclock using this method, Intel has streamlined the process by offering a software solution that can be used within Windows.

Altering clock frequency or voltage may void any product warranties and reduce stability, security, performance, and life of the processor and other components. For a long time, overclocking was done manually through the BIOS, the basic input output system that loads the operating system.

Does MSI gp72 7rdx support i7-7700hq overclocking?

Outdoors, the machine is absolutely usable as a result of its ample brightness, good contrast ratio, and anti-glare coating. The MSI GP72VR can be configured with up to Intel Core i7 quad-core processors, 32 GB of dual-channel RAM (2 total slots), and dual storage (with support for NVMe SSDs).

The 7700HQ has a base clock of 2.8 GHz and with turbo boost up to 3.8GHz. The 7700HQ cannot be overclocked, but can be modified a little bit. Ill explain below: When one core is doing most of the work, the 1 core is boosted to 3.8GHz. When two cores are working, I believe two cores are boosted to 3.8GHz.

As the bigger brother of the MSI GP62 gaming notebook, the GP72-7RFX Leopard Pro unabashedly adopts the same philosophy: no-frills, heavy-duty, function-over-form, affordable gaming. At the same time, though, it manages a very reasonable weight of just 2.836 kg€which is great for a 17.3-inch machine of its class (with an optical drive to boot).

The Intel Core i7-7700HQ is an extremely popular CPU for this segment thanks to its relatively reasonable cost but blistering performance. In short, its a Kaby Lake processor featuring clock rates ranging from 2.8 3.8 GHz and operating within the rather generous constraints of a 45 W TDP.

What voltage should I set my laptop for overclocking?

In theory, any CPU can be overclocked. But overclocking can be done only by raising whats called the base clock € that is, the clock speed of your motherboard and your entire system (including the CPU, RAM, and PCI Express devices, such as sound cards or graphic cards). And just because you can overclock a CPU doesnt mean you should.

When overclocking the bus or multiplier speeds, the signals are more likely to get interference. To combat this, you can increase the voltage to the CPU core, memory, or AGP bus. There are limits to how much more a user can apply to the processor. If you apply too much, you could destroy the circuits.

A CPU and motherboard that support overclocking: For Intel CPUs, look for the K designation, and use a motherboard with a Z chipset. For example, you can overclock an Intel Core i7-9700K with a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra motherboard. Check your hardwares specifications if you arent sure.

Step 1: Restart your computer and press ESC to go to the BIOS MENU. Step 2: Set the CPU/NB frequency to the next available value. Save settings and do a stability test. While overclocking gives super performance results, it is good to note that when done wrong, you risk losing/ frying your system.

What is a good temp for a 7700hq?

Re: 17 R4, i7-7700HQ, safe temperature limits? For other PC like XPS 15-9570, the temperature should not exceed 94°C. But since Intel states max is 100°C for your specific CPU, anything up to that should be fine.

For reference, my overclocked i7-9700k (5Ghz 1.27V) runs at 40C idle and 70C under full load, with an ambient temperature of 31C. For longevity sake, the cooler your CPU runs, the better. Are temperatures of 70°C+ on CPU fine for a laptop when completely idle? Not really.

Of course, this varies largely based on the specific laptop in mind, but most mainstream laptops turbo up to 100C anyways (yes its not good, but manufacturers prefer thin and light to actual performance), so 93C is actually pretty good and relatively benign for a laptop.

Can I overclock my CPU?

Overclocking a CPU doesnt have to be complicated. Were covering the basics of how overclocking works, why you might want to do it, and the best practices to achieve a stable overclock. 1 2 Overclocking a CPU doesnt have to be complicated.

With its comprehensive approach to overclocking, AMD Ryzen Master is arguably one of the best CPU overclocking programs around. Consider this as AMDs answer to Intels overclocking tool. Along with CPU overclocking, AMD Ryzen Master comes with pre-tuned settings to overclock your RAM and memory profiles to boost your DDR3 RAM performance.

Overclocking actually is the process of setting your CPU multiplier higher, which will speed up chip and increase the overall performance of computer. It usually involves the primary processor. Certainly, you can also overclock a discrete GPU to boost graphics processing.

Step by Step. The Rule: Maximize frequency and minimize voltage while extracting as much heat as possible so the system remains stable. Select a motherboard designed specifically to enable overclocking when paired with unlocked Intel® processors. Utilize a robust ATX power supply which can handle the increased power draw.

What happens if you overclock the bus speed of a CPU?

When overclocking a processor, these are the two factors that can influence the performance. Increasing the bus speed will have the greatest impact as it increases factors such as memory speed (if the memory runs synchronously) as well as the processor speed. The multiplier has a lower impact than the bus speed, but can be more difficult to adjust.

But overclocking can be done only by raising whats called the base clock € that is, the clock speed of your motherboard and your entire system (including the CPU, RAM, and PCI Express devices, such as sound cards or graphic cards). What should bus speed be?

Overclocking occurs when you set your CPU and memory to run at a speed that is higher than their official speed grade. As an example, an Intel Core i7 860 has a speed of 2.80GHz.

If one were to overclock an Intel Core i7 860 it would then be running at a speed higher than 2.80GHz. A CPUs speed rating states the speed of all processors in the same manufacturing batch can run, basically meaning the speed listed is more than likely lower than the actual abilities of the CPU.

How do I know if my motherboard supports overclocking?

The PH Of Purified Water. This equation defines if a certain substance is acidic or alkaline. This range starts from 0 and goes to 14. 7 is the neutral number and this is what distilled water should measure at. If the numbers are lower than 7, then the substance is acidic, and it is alkaline when over 7.

This happens constantly to the trillion upon trillions of water molecules. In extremely pure water, the number of H+ and OH- would always be equal, and the pH would be neutral at 7. There are no other substances present to influence the pH in either the acidic or alkaline direction. So why do the BEV values allow for the pH to be acidic?

Bottled water from a high pH source may require additional purification because the high pH reduces the effectiveness of the chlorine used to disinfect the water.

How to overclock your CPU/NB frequency?

In order to increase the CPU frequency during an overclock, we will be raising the multipliers in +1 intervals, systematically adding 100 MHz to our processors frequency at a time, then testing for success and stability. We will then continue that process until we reach the limits of what is possible with the hardware.

North Bridge Frequency, popularly called NB Frequency is the baseline used for defining the clock speed or running frequency of the processor. The value, generally expressed in MHz means that the processor would perform that many million clock cycles every second.

My BIOS has no option to alter any CPU parameters. Does that mean I cant overclock? That either means the motherboard doesnt support OC or that the CPU has a lock on it. Try using Intel Xtreme Tuning Utility or AMD overdrive. Thanks!

The CPU frequency is determined by three factors: BCLK or base clock speed. This is the base frequency of your CPU, usually measured in GHz. Multipliers or core multipliers. There is a single multiplier for each CPU core. These multipliers are applied to the base clock frequency, and the result is the core frequency, commonly measured in GHz.

How does overclocking work in Windows?

Well, on its surface its pretty simple; in general, PC overclocking is the process where you set your computer components to higher clock speeds for better performance. You are taking your clock speed and pushing it over its normal limit. (This isnt how monitor OCs work, though.)

Well, you can! Heres how € and why. Overclocking your monitor is essentially for the same purpose as overclocking your processor; to get a little more performance. It involves increasing the refresh rate beyond the stock rating, meaning it can draw more frames on the screen per second.

In addition, you need to find a balance between temperatures and clock speeds. Moreover, some preparations like getting a good cooling system and obtaining a good understanding of overclocking are vital too. If you insist in overclocking CPU after learning its drawbacks, you can refer to the steps below to safely overclock CPU.

Then, overclocking is the only thing that you can do in order to level up your systems performance. All you need is only a good overclocking software for your Windows 10 PC to boost. The core components like CPU, GPU, and Ram can be easily overclocked.

What are the disadvantages of overclocking a CPU?

Overclocking can cause the CPU core temperature to increase and inadequate heat dissipation and a proper cooling system may damage your components. Overclocking will void the warranty. Sometimes the computer may crash because of overheating. It will definitely shorten the life-span of the CPU.

The biggest disadvantage of overclocking is the reduced lifespan of hardware components. Overclocking increases voltage and thus, increases heat generation. An increase in heat can gradually damage the specific components of CPUs, GPUs, RAMs, and motherboard.

It usually involves the primary processor. Certainly, you can also overclock a discrete GPU to boost graphics processing. What does overclocking do? With overclocking, the CPU or GPU clock run faster than its original clock speed.
