Except for Thuringia, every German state police agency has a Water Safety Police unit that patrols the state’s rivers, beaches, harbours, and large lakes. In many German-speaking parts of Europe, green and blue police uniforms have been worn since the 18th and 19th centuries. From 1763 to 1804, the “Landhusaren” police in Hessen wore light blue uniforms. When it started in 1815, Hanover’s royal “Land Gendarmerie” wore green shirts and blue pants.
