Over time, it has become more common for new homes to have finished basements. If you can build a new home, you can make it the home of your dreams by adding things like a finished basement or a finished flex space on the third floor. Whether you work with a semi-custom builder like Eastwood or a custom builder, it’s important to know what your options are. So, do you need a finished basement or a flex space on the third floor? Do you really need that extra room? Here are some ideas for turning your basement or third floor into a stylish, useful room that everyone will enjoy.

Keeping the mess away with a kids’ play area-

Who doesn’t love a place where kids can act like fools and have fun? Using strong cabinet space, toys can be put into groups in a basement or on the third floor. It will also cut down on the mess the kids make, since they will spend most of their time outside of the main living room. Also, you can relax or get things done while they play downstairs or upstairs. Even though we know you love your kids, sometimes it’s nice to have some quiet time, and we KNOW it will be nice to walk through your house without having to dodge toys.

Make your neighbourhood a good place for kids.

If you have a bar in your basement or on your third floor, you will be the most popular neighbour in the area. Your new home should be in a place where you want to spend a lot of time. If you like cocktails, why not make your own bar at home? You and your friends can easily spend New Year’s Eve, watch a football game, or have a cocktail party without leaving your house or paying for an Uber. There’s no need to find childcare because the kids can play upstairs while the adults relax downstairs, or vice versa! Fun shouldn’t just be for kids, after all.

Watching sports on a big screen is more fun.

Some of you will agree that your date (cough, males) watches way too many sports games. Either you won’t be interested or you won’t be able to watch The Bachelor on HGTV in the living room. Maybe your kids can’t watch TV because a game is on and they can’t miss it. On the other hand, men may agree that it can be hard to watch a game in the living room because of the noise level in the house, especially in modern homes with large, open floor plans! Installing a big screen and a couch in your finished basement or third level will solve all of your problems. There is plenty of room for a big flat-screen TV or, if you want to go all out, even a projector in these areas.

Adding more space for storage

Having a finished basement or third floor could be your new best friend if you like to shop. With a variety of cabinets and hanging racks, any basement or third floor can be turned into a large closet or storage area. You will need the extra space that a finished basement or third floor gives you. Set up a place to wrap gifts for birthdays or to keep your Christmas decorations in order.
